Notes From The Mayor
The City of Houston, Missouri
I was raised on a dairy farm in the Bado community, west of Houston.  I attended 8 years of elementary school in one-room schools in the Oak Grove, Lone Star, Gravel Point, and Lone Oak school districts and graduated from Cabool High School in 1964. After graduation I worked at Hallmark Card Company in Kansas City, MO until joining the US Navy in December of 1964.  I retired from the Navy in December 1986 and returned to Missouri and settled in the Houston community.  I worked for the US Postal Service for 26 years and retired in December of 2012.

While living in the community, I have been a member of the Houston Citizen's for Education Committee for several years, a member of the Houston R1 Board of Education for 9 years, a member and chairman of the Houston Planning & Zoning Committee, a member and chairman of the Houston Parks & Recreation Committee, and a 30 year member of the Houston United Methodist Church.

Houston has been fortunate to have excellent leadership in the past, leaders who recognized opportunities and did what was necessary to make those opportunities become reality.  Please look at:  "Houston Past & Present" / "Community" / "Historical City & County Dates".

Examples of things that sets Houston apart from many surrounding towns are our terrific parks, the many miles of walking trails, city streets that are kept in excellent condition, a new sewer treatment plant, a new water well that enhances water pressure for fire suppression in area businesses, city owned electrical system, new LED lighting for the highways and city streets, a good city swimming pool and tennis courts, a Chamber of Commerce that promotes business and entertainment, and 2081 terrific citizens.

Houston is a great place to live!  We are very fortunate to have a good public school system, a county hospital, and many businesses that supply good jobs to our citizens.  This is a town that will allow you to contribute if you are willing to get involved.  Please look around the community and see where your talents could be used to make it an even better place.  I know you will be welcome to participate.
